PUBLISH YOUR ZINE

  • What is Dux Books?

Part of StreetSnappers, we design, print, sell and market your street photography zine - all at no cost to you. We take all the hassle, the risk and the cost out of zine publishing, bringing it within everyone’s reach.

Dux Books publishes street and documentary photography projects and we aim to produce at least one zine each month in out first year, increasing capacity in subsequent years.

  • How it Works

If we agree to publish your street or documentary photography zine, simply send us your images and up to 250 words of introductory text - and we do the rest. It’s as simple as that!

Each zine will have a First Edition limited print run of 100 copies which will have a retail cover price of £9. We will send you 40 free copies of your zine to do with as you wish; you can sell them or give them away - it’s up to you - and these 40 copies won’t cost you a penny.

Remember - this costs you absolutely nothing.

Once the zine has sold out we may publish a second edition (and subsequent editions) and in this case we’ll send you a further batch of 40 zines for every edition published - always at no cost to you.

  • What's in it for You?

There are 5 big benefits of publishing your zine using Dux Books:

1/ Firstly, you eliminate the hassles, the risks and the costs involved in self-publishing. You don’t need design skills or knowledge of the print process - we do everything for you.

2/ There’s no cost to you whatsoever and no risk that you’ll be left with boxes of zines if your project doesn’t sell.

3/ Your work will be designed and printed to a high standard.

4/ We’ll use our contacts and extensive reach within the street photography world to market your zine to the widest possible audience. Zines will be available for sale on the Dux Books website and will be promoted via social media - with an emphasis on Instagram. Remember, once we have sold out of our 60 copies, a re-run will commissioned and you’ll receive another batch of free zines.  In short, we’ll do our best to get your work - and your name - out there.

5/ There will also be an element of endorsement (dare we say ‘prestige’?) in having your work published by a specialist independent publisher and your zine will be on sale alongside many other street photographers’ work.

  • High quality design + Printing

Our zines all follow an identical format. We have a strong design ethos and put as much effort into the design, layout and editing as you put into the image creation.

Each zine  will be printed as follows:

    + 24 to 42 images

+ Design work undertaken by Dux

+ Printed to A5 (portrait orientation)

    + 120gsm uncoated stock with 250gsm cover

    + Staple bound

FAQs

  • No, we ask for submissions and we choose which projects we take on. Our editorial team will make a decision based on their experience of what will appeal to a wide audience - and whether your work is a good fit with Dux Books. We only publish documentary and street photography zines.

  • The first essential criteria is that its documentary or street photography - we don’t publish anything else. Then we look for a distinctive, consistent and cohesive body of work with a clear project focus.

  • Absolutely not! We work with amateurs or professionals - new photographers or established names - experienced or less experienced. If the project is right, you’ll have our backing.

  • Either way is fine by us.

  • This can come from you, from us or via collaboration between us. We like titles to be short, snappy, descriptive and attention-grabbing.

  • Of course, you can purchase as many as you like in multiples of 25 - all at a 33% discount on the cover price. These should be ordered before the print run is commissioned.

  • Yes, that’s the whole point! You can sell them or you can give them away. There is a cover price of £8 but you can charge whatever you like for your own copies.

  • We’re sure you will be! But if you’re not happy because of a production defect then a reprint will be commissioned at no cost to you. We ask you to take responsibility for the accuracy of your own text and for the technical qualities of your images - although we’ll do our utmost to do all the essential pre-flight checks before printing is commissioned.
