Street photography competitions and awards come in all shapes and sizes, from small regional events to those with the opportunity for global recognition. We’ll keep this list updated - please let us know if you can add to it!

This is by no means an exhaustive list and it’s updated regularly. It includes competitions, trade shows, festivals and other events of interest to street photographers. Please feel free to contact Brian if you have any additions or updates to the list!


SONY WORLD PHOTOGRAPHY AWARDS (2024)

The Sony World Photography Awards is the leading competition for photographers and artists working in photography. Made up of four competitions (Professional, Open, Student and Youth), all entries are free and the top prize is $25,000. The Awards is regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious photography competitions by elevating photographers’ careers – from established to emerging – since it started 16 years ago.

LENS CULTURE

Probably the best-known awards programme with lots of opportunities to enter at different levels. Very popular with my workshops students!

SIENA INTERNATIONAL PHOTO AWARDS

SIPA is one of the photo contests with the highest international participation ever and usually receives around images from amateur and professional photographers from 150+ countries worldwide.

URBAN PHOTO AWARDS (TRIESTE)

Annual competition; free to enter, fee payable if published.

LONDON STREET PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL

This is a regular event, though no dates have yet been published for 2022 or beyond. Various categories and classes of entry and they get some interesting speakers.

BERLIN PHOTO WEEK

Every September. Trade show with a full programme of events & exhibitions.

MIAMI STREET PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL

This is a terrific international street photography festival showcasing the best of contemporary street and documentary photography. Established in 2012 and hosted every December during Art Basel week, it is the largest and leading street photography festival in the world.
