28mm lens for street photography?
I get quite a few people on workshops who shoot street photography with a Leica Q/Q2/Q3 which all have a fixed 28mm (full-frame) lens - and a small number of people who use a 28mm (18mm crop sensor) on other cameras such as the Ricoh.
Shooting so wide is an absolute joy as you can get so much information in your frame, especially if you want to bring layers in from the sides. You can be very fluid with a 28, ducking and diving to get close to your subjects, which inevitably brings more drama and intimacy to the shot.
However, if you're shooting wide, remember you have a frame to fill and you really *must* get close. The common problem, which I see happening a lot, is that the image is 30-40% foreground or sky and it's frankly very flat and boring. So please bear this in mind - you need to fill the frame!
I know that not everybody is comfortable getting close to their subjects but if you're not prepared to persevere, this is probably not the right lens for you. street
