Your stories of insipration - Ginny Wren
This week’s dose of inspiration is from Ginny Wren, who first came on a workshop with me in 2020 when she was completely new to street photography (and I think fairly new to photography generally). Photo North Festival - street photography in Blackpool
On Sunday I popped in to the Photo North Festival in Blackpool and I have to say it’s well worth a visit. Silhouettes in street photography: yes or no?
It’s a question that’s been debated a lot in street photography circles over the past few weeks, instigated by street photographer, Stephen Leslie, who’s claimed that too many people are out to copy the work of the great Alex Webb, resulting in the world being flooded with bland, meaningless silhouettes. What do you think?

Where street meets urban landscape photography
I know that the observational style of street photography isn’t for everyone - but there is another way! There’s an interesting space where ‘street’ meets ‘urban landscape’, where the buildings, the structures, the light and the composition take precedence over the people.

Instagram for street photographers
I’m often asked about social media and it’s relevance (or otherwise) to street photographers. Is it a force for good or evil? Is it worth all the effort or is it a waste of time? Does it attract the right or the wrong sort of followers? Does it provide us with inspiration or false hope? In this article we look at some of the key questions - and provide some answers.
